Regulars here would remember that we reported in detail when Mercedes India recently launched a Facebook contest to promote the upcoming new generation GL Class SUV. In this contest, the participants are required to correctly answer some questions to win a chance to meet tennis star Boris Becker. The winners might also win a chance to get his/her child admitted at Becker’s tennis clinic in Bengaluru.
Now, it has emerged that Boris Becker will be launching the new 2013 Mercedes GL350 CDI in India on May 16. The car will be launched in an event in New Delhi and the new GL will be the first car to be launched by Mercedes in India this year. The latest generation of the GL Class made its internationally early last year.
The new car, unlike the outgoing model, will come to us via CKD assembly. However, the initial batches will be imported in to India as via CBU route.
Powering the India spec Mercedes GL Class will be a 3.0 litre diesel engine which has a max power output of 255 bhp and a peak torque figure of 632Nm. The motor is mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox.
