That’s a BMW Z4 M40i! That is probably the very first reaction you would have when you see the Bovensiepen Spider from a distance. The shape, low seating position and long bonnet give away its BMW Z4 roots. But get closer, look at the Bovensiepen badge and the details around the car, and it becomes clear that this is not a Z4.
The Spider is the third production model from Bovensiepen and is based on the BMW Z4 M40i. Only 99 examples will be built, making it a very limited roadster. Orders are already open, with deliveries expected by the end of March 2027.
A different take on the Z4
Bovensiepen has made several changes to the exterior without moving too far away from the original Z4 shape. The roadster gets a new front splitter, larger front-fender vents, side skirts and a rear diffuser. There is also a more pronounced integrated rear spoiler. The car rides on 20-inch forged wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.
- Length: 4,334mm
- Width: 1,864mm
- Height: 1,304mm
- Wheelbase: Based on BMW Z4 platform
- Kerb weight: 1,585kg
- Boot space: 281 litres
The limited production run will also get a specific colour split. Sapphire Black will be used on 40 cars, followed by Sanremo Green on 25 units and Skyscraper Grey on 20. Nine cars will get Thundernight, while only five will be finished in Frozen Grey II.

More power from the six-cylinder engine
The Spider uses BMW’s 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six B58 engine. Bovensiepen has worked on the intake and exhaust systems, including an additional ram-air channel.
The engine makes 429bhp and 580Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.

Bovensiepen also offers a Performance Package. It adds an aluminium rear differential cover with larger cooling fins, an underbody V-brace, revised dampers and longer rear auxiliary springs. The package raises the top speed to 295kmph.
There is also an optional high-performance brake setup with four-piston fixed front calipers and larger perforated discs.
Cabin gets more special materials
The dashboard layout is still familiar from the Z4, but Bovensiepen has used different materials to give the cabin a more exclusive feel. Vernasca leather covers the seats, while Alcantara is used on the seat panels. The steering wheel gets Lavalina leather.
- Heated steering wheel
- Comfort Access
- Harman Kardon surround-sound system
- Vernasca leather upholstery
- Alcantara seat panels
- Numbered production plaque
Customers can also opt for additional leather inside the cabin, including a leather-wrapped dashboard. Alcantara trim is available for the A-pillars, wind deflector and roll-bar cover.
Bovensiepen also offers personalised headrest embroidery and embossing through its in-house upholstery and leathercraft department.

A very limited roadster
The Spider also marks Bovensiepen’s return to the roadster body style after the Alpina Roadster S based on the older BMW Z4.
The company has kept the two-seat layout and rear-wheel-drive setup, but added more power and its own suspension, exhaust and styling changes. The result is a Z4-based roadster that has its own identity.
Production will stop at just 99 cars. The starting price is €115,500, before any additional options.
