BMW working on 1 series sedan to rival Mercedes CLA and Audi A3 sedan

If Audi and Mercedes are here, can BMW really be far behind? We are talking about this trio here planning to come up with budget end sedans for fast developing markets like India. Regulars here will remember that we have been posting in detail about the Mercedes CLA sedan that arrives soon. We have also reported in a fair bit of detail about Audi’s A3 sedan that will be seen battling it out with the CLA and comes to us in early 2013. Now, it has emerged that BMW is almost ready to jump into this battle with a sedan that will be based on the new 1 Series. It is being said that while the 1 series sedan, in true BMW fashion, will be a front engined car, the powered wheels will be the front and not the rear. International markets will get the Four-wheel drive variant. However, safely expect India to miss the 4WD. The car will be powered by a 1500cc turbocharged petrol motor and we also expect to soon hear about a diesel option. The car has been codenamed as UKL (an acronym for the German words ‘unter klasse’, i.e. ‘entry level’ in English)

Mercedes, Audi and now, BMW. Luxury is slated to get affordable it seems.
