BMW India has launched the updated 1 Series hatchback in India, with a price tag of INR 29.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Thane). The facelifted BMW 118d Sportline variant, introduced this year and new for 2016, will be available in only one trim and a single diesel engine option as opposed to the multiple trims and diesel and petrol options offered in the pre-facelift model.

The new 1 Series is slightly longer and taller than the outgoing model, now measuring in at 4,329mm in length, 1,765mm in width, and 1,440mm in height. Upfront, there’s a pair of BI-xenon headlamps, a bigger kidney grille and a re-profiled lower fascia. And while the sides remain largely the same as its predecessor, the rear-end features larger “L-shaped” taillights and twin exhaust pipes. To our eyes, the new 118d Sportline appear slightly more aggressive-looking than the previous version.

Delving inside, the 118d gets a revised infotainment system, piano-black finished centre console, chrome highlights on the radio and air vents and matte silver accents on the door-handles. All BMW 1-series models will now get single-zone climate control as standard, with the option of a dual-zone system.

Engine options for the 2016 1 Series remain the same: a 1995cc, turbocharged diesel unit, but producing slightly more power at 148 bhp, and 320 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic ZF transmission.

The facelifted BMW 1 Series is now available for bookings at BMW showrooms across the country.
