BMW India to Launch New Z4 Roadster Next Month

BMW India is set to launch the new 2014 Z4 Roadster next month. After launching the 5-Series LCI couple of days ago and the 1-Series in September, this will be BMW India’s 3rd launch in 3 months.

Globally, the BMW Z4 is available with 3 engines- a 4 cylinder 2.0 litre and two 6 cylinder 3.0 litre blocks churning out 340 PS and 306 PS. BMW will offer the Z4 in the sDrive35i variant with the 6 cylinder 3.0 litre unit in the 306 PS state of tune.

The sDrive35i produces a maximum output of 300 HP, and peak torque of 300 pound-feet which is spread throughout a broad rev range of 1,400 to 5,000 rpm. This variant Z4 weighs over 1500 kgs. Under the hood,  3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six owes its light weight to its composite magnesium/aluminum crankcase, cylinder head cover made of a special synthetic material and lightweight camshafts with aluminum VANOS control unit. Globally, the Z4 is also offered with manual tyranny. Sadly, manual wont be offered in India though. The Z4 will be equipped with the 7 speed dual clutch transmission from the M5. The sDrive35i variant is rated at 17 mpg in city and 24 mpg on highway.

Standard equipment for the Z4 includes leatherette upholstery, dual zone automatic climate control, an AM/FM/CD stereo system with HD Radio and AUX and USB inputs, Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, rain-sensing wipers, heated mirrors, power-adjustable seats, bi-xenon headlights and 17-inch alloy wheels

The BMW Z4 faces competition from the Porsche Boxter, Audi TT and Mercedes SLK.

The new Z4 will be priced higher than the outgoing model. We can safely expect it to be north of 70 lakhs.
