BMW India Confirms 2013 Launch for BMW 1 Series Hatchback

Mercedes Benz is looking all set to launch the all new A-Class in Indian market. Now that it is for sure that the small Mercedes is headed our way, can BMW India merely be a spectator?

Yesterday, Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India, announced that his company intends to bring the 1 series to our shores. The car will be brought via CKD route and will lock horns with the upcoming Mercedes Benz A Class.

The latest generation of BMW 1 Series is said to be highly inspired by the larger 5 Series Gran Turismo and will come to us in the five door body type.

The German car maker offers a range of engines for the 1 series in international market. The Petrol mill on offer is a 1.6 liter motor that is available in two states of tune- 136hp and 170 hp. The car maker also has a 2.0 liter oil burner that can had in three states of tune- 116hp, 143hp and 184 hp. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard on all models with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission being optional on high end variants.

The BMW 1 Series will come to us with a price tag of INR 18 to 20 lakhs.
