Various sources have been saying that BMW India, country’s largest selling luxury car maker, is planning to come up with an entry level petrol variant of the BMW 3 Series series. The new variant, which will go on sale under the BMW 320i moniker, was recently unveiled at the ongoing Detroit Motor Show. The 320i will join the 320d and 328i variants in India.

The new base model has been showcased with a price tag of $33,440 (Rs 18.19 lakhs) and expect the car to be priced around INR 25 lakhs when it goes on sale in India. This means that the new entry level BMW 3 series will be almost INR 12 lakhs cheaper than the range topping 328i variant.

The 320i will skip on some of the equipment and will come only with a basic iDrive, a single-CD player with no data storage and faux leather instead of the real deal. The 320i will get 16-inch alloy wheels instead of the 18 inchers on the 328i and the car also won’t get a sunroof. Also, the car won’t get a reverse camera and the Xenon headlights that are present on higher variants.

Under the hood of new BMW 320i will be the same 1994cc, 4-cylinder, 180bhp-200lb/ft, petrol motor that is also found in the BMW 520i.

The upcoming BMW 320i will be a direct competitor to the Mercedes C 200 BlueEfficiency and the Audi A4 1.8 TFSI.
