C-Class bengaluru accident

Easter didn’t seem to be a cheerful day for the residents of Jayanagar 1st block in Bengaluru as they witnessed a series of tragedies unfold in a span of minutes. A doctor by profession, N.S. Shankar was driving his Mercedes-Benz C-Class allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he rammed into a number of vehicles before coming to a halt after crashing into a locked house. The incident caused 4 accidents in a stretch of 1.4 km.

The mishaps occurred around 2 P.M when Shankar, an orthopedic doctor, was driving from Lalbagh main road to Byrasandra. Other occupants of the car included his maid servant Sarita and her two year old daughter who were fortunate enough to escape sans any injuries. Sarita was said to have told the police that Shankar, driving the vehicle at an estimated speed of 50-60 km/ph, suffered an epileptic fit due to which the accidents occurred.

Shankar’s Mercedes Benz first rammed into a Maruti Swift in which one occupant known as Tanzim Khan is said to have suffered head injuries. He then rammed into 2 two-wheelers throwing both the riders off their respective vehicles and injuring them. Further down the road, the grey coloured vehicle hit a Tata Indica as well as a Maruti Zen, causing the former to hit a nearby compound wall as Shankar knocked down a Honda Dio coming from the opposite side. This part of the accident saw Anjum Khan, who was travelling in the cab, suffer a fracture on her right arm while Syed, who was on the Dio saw a chunk of skin and flesh being scraped off his right hand.

This didn’t seem to be the end of a series of tragedy. The C-class went ahead and rammed into another Dio which was occupied by Rizwan Pasha and his wife Mousina Begum as it was in a stationary position. The impact of the car was such that it left Mousina with serious injures including fractures in her legs while Pasha died on the spot. The car ultimately came to a halt after crashing into a house that was unoccupied at the time of the accident.
