Auto Expo 2018: BMW To Showcase New X3, M5, i8 Roadster And 6-Series GT

The upcoming 2018 Auto Expo to be held in Delhi next month will witness a number of manufacturers setting up their pavilions to showcase numerous products. The biggest pavilion, without doubt, will belong to German luxury automobile manufacturer BMW who will be showcasing a range a products and brands including BMW (four wheelers), BMW Motorrad (premium two wheeler division) and MINI. While we’ve already told you what BMW Motorrad has in store for us, this time, let us tell you what BMW will showcase in the four wheeler department:

New BMW M5

The 2018 BMW M5 was unveiled last year and introduced an M specific all wheel drive in the model, the first in any M car, which the company likes to call M xDrive. Propelling the new M5 is a 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. This engine produces 600 hp and 750 Nm of torque. Transmission is taken care of by a new eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox with Drivelogic and helps the model to accelerate from 0-100 kph in just 3.4 seconds.

A few other highlights of the upcoming BMW M5 include a carbon ceramic brakes, carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof, 19 inch alloy wheels (20 inches available as an option), a new Marina Bay blue metallic paint job and a few made to order paint jobs in the matte finish such as Frozen Dark Silver or Frozen Arctic Grey.

New BMW i8 Roadster

BMW took the covers off the i8 Roadster, the first open-top model under the company’s i range of models, at the Los Angeles Motor Show held in November last year. The company also unveiled the i8 Coupe facelift during the same occasion. Coming back to the i8 roadster, the model is powered by a retuned version of the petrol electric hybrid motor. The 1.5-litre, three cylinder petrol unit continues to produce 231 hp and 320 Nm of torque while the electric motor receives a boost of 12 hp, taking the combined output to 347 hp. According to BMW, the i8 Roadster can attain speed of 0-100 kph in 4.6 seconds, all the way up to an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph.

New BMW 6-Series GT

The Bavarian automobile manufacturer unveiled the 6-Series GT last year as a replacement to the 5-Series GT. When compared to to its predecessor, the 6-Series GT has a vehicle height which has been reduced by 21mm, while the rear end has been lowered by 64mm. The vehicle length has been increased by 87mm while the width of the model remains the same. In India, the model will rival the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB.  Upon launch, the 6-Series GT is expected to be available with a range of engine options such as the four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines and a six-cylinder diesel motor.

New BMW X3

The all new 2018 BMW X3 was spied in India ahead of its debut that will take place at the Auto Expo. The SUV, currently in it’s third generation, is based on the company’s Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform. The new X3 is 55 kgs lighter and larger in size as compared to the outgoing model.

The 2018 X3 will come with a few visual updates to the front and rear while the interior will receive a few upgrades in the form of a new infotainment system and upholstery. Powering the model will be a 2.0-litre, four cylinder diesel engine capable of producing 188 bhp and 400 Nm of torque, paired to a eight speed automatic transmission.
