Alongside the production ready HEXA crossover, Tata Motors also showcased a customised example at the Auto Expo 2016, called the HEXA Tuff. The Tuff moniker calls for a positively mean all-black colour theme on the exteriors, along with bike rack at the back. The all-black colour theme encompasses pretty much everything on the outside, including the wheels, the once dual-coloured bumpers and even the chrome embellishments on the grille, exhausts, tail gate and around the fog lamps. The smoked projector headlamps from the standard HEXA are more at home on the Tuff avatar. In fact, the only streaks of chrome on the HEXA Tuff can be found on the door handles and windows.
The rear bumper also features distinctive Tuff branding, while the bike rack at the back should address trending lifestyle needs. Inside, the HEXA Tuff features a similar all-black colour theme, along with black Alcantara trimming for the steering wheel. The aforementioned ornamental changes apart, the HEXA Tuff is pretty much a standard HEXA, which means that power comes from a 2.2L VARICOR 400 diesel engine which delivers 156 PS @ 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 400 Nm @1700-2700 rpm. A choice of 6 speed manual and automatic transmissions are available, along with an optional, shift-on-the-fly 4WD system.
Like the HEXA, the HEXA Tuff is also equipped with with a multi- drive mode (analogous to Land Rover’s Terrain Response system) that has 4 modes to choose from – Auto, Comfort, Dynamic and Rough Road. The HEXA Tuff comes with safety features like 6 airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Corner Stability Control, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Traction Control System and Engine Drag Control System.
