Ariel Nomad Mumbai India

An Ariel Nomad Has Found Its Way To Mumbai

What happens when you give an atom the freedom to explore other nuclei? It becomes a nomad. Putting the bad microscopic pun aside, that’s exactly what England based Ariel Motor Company has done to their open-wheeled, lightweight Atom sports car. They’ve made it stronger, beefed up the shocks and tires, and then let it loose in the great outdoors. They’ve turned it into the Nomad. And one such Ariel Nomad has found its way to Mumbai, making it the first of its kind to come to India.

Maybe it has come to meet the lone Ariel Atom that already resides in Mumbai. Who knows? But its one hell of an import. Holding up the Nomad is its bronze welded steel structure with aluminium bulkheads. Sticking out from it is the Nomad’s long travel suspension setup comprising of Outboard Bilstein dampers and alloy steel Eibach coil springs, while an aluminium quick steering rack pilots a pair of 235 section off-road tires. The same tires are fitted to the rear as well.

Moulded polyethylene bodywork on the front, back, sides and mudguards cover up the bare-bone structure, while composite covers in a range of colours and carbon fibre are offered as an option for bonnet and engine cover. At the heart of the Nomad lies a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder Honda petrol engine which puts out 235 hp and 300 Nm of torque. That doesn’t like much, but given into consideration that the Nomad weighs just 670 kg, it flies – 0 to 100 kph takes a mere 3.4 seconds.

The Nomad also boasts of a 71 degree approach and an insane 82 degree departure angle, along with 240mm ventilated disc brakes. The only amenity provided inside the cabin is the comprehensive instrument cluster, which gets a LCD digital display, a speedometer, a tachometer, water and fuel gauges, along with odo and trip meters. Oh, and there’s a suede steering wheel as well. You can even spec the Nomad for what you want to do and exactly how you want it to look. The Nomad starts at £27,500 plus (20 percent) VAT in the UK. That translates to just a shade over INR 22 lakh.
