India’s favorite car Maruti Suzuki Alto recently posted a new world record. However, we are not surprised. It may be noted that the Alto on sale in India is the previous generation of Alto brand of cars, the latest gen being highly based on our AStar. Now, our Alto has been posting high sales since Maruti decided to pit the car as a replacement for the aging 800 as its logical successor. Now, the news is that the car has again bagged the title of being the best selling hatchback of the world.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto outsold the established hatchbacks like the VW Gol and Fiat Uno to become world’s largest selling hatchback for the second time. The Alto sold more than 300,000 units this year. Another Suzuki car to feature in the lists of top 5 best selling hatchbacks is the tall boy Wagon R.
However, it will be interesting to see how well the old warship battles it out against the fresh competition such as the Hyundai Eon.
