All you need to know about the Tata Nano diesel

To be honest, we seem to have lost count of the times we have posted about the upcoming Tata Nano diesel variant. The eagerly awaited diesel variant looks promising enough to revive the fortunes of the Nano brand. The Tata Nano diesel could also enable Tata Motors with re-gaining a lead over Mahindra cars.

As can be observed in the latest set of spy pics, the Nano diesel will come with a newly designed set of bumper that lends quite an sporty look to the upcoming car. Also, as can be seen in one of the images, the car also mildly revised tailgate and rear windscreen. On close observation of this pic, it can be seen that the tailgate will be ‘opne-able’ (what else explains the keyhole and the door handle?).

The usage of a new rear bumper could have been necessitated by the bigger diesel engine that the car has to accommodate at the back. Another minor visual difference is that the Nano diesel has its exhaust pipe in the left, instead of having it in the center, like the petrol Nano.

With a competitive selling price and a diesel engine that could stretch a litre of stickier fuel to almost 40kmpl, the Nano can easily be said to be the next big thing in the world of affordable motoring.

Powering the Tata Nano is an 800 cc oil burner that has a max power output of 40PS. The engine is currently the smallest diesel engine in the world to have a turbocharger. The engine’s turbocharger comes from Honeywell and it is being said that the motor could have an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of around 40kmpl! This would translate into running costs so low that you might actually want to mock at some of your biker friends.

The Tata Nano diesel could be unveiled at the upcoming 2014 Delhi Auto Expo.

  2. Hope that the new diesel nano does not make sound like a diesel rickshaw. People won’t buy if this happens. Then again it be a poor mans car like its petrol variant.
