All-New BMW X3 Production Starts In Chennai Plant; Launch Scheduled In April 2018

BMW Group Plant Chennai has started the production of the all-new BMW X3 that will be launched next month (April 2018) in India. For 2018, the BMW X3 features updates to the exterior and interior. However, the mechanical specifications could remain unchanged.

The new model is based on the company’s Cluster Architecture (CLAR platform and sheds a few kilos over the outgoing model. Upfront, the SUV features a larger kidney grille with a redesigned set of headlamps, new front bumper with integrated fog lamps and larger air intakes at the front. At the rear, the model will benefit from a new set of tail lights.

Inside, the new BMW X3 will come equipped with new features that include a 12.5 inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with gesture control, three spoke multi-function steering wheel and chrome inserts for the centre console and the HVAC vents.

The new 2018 X3 will most likely use a 2.0-litre, four cylinder, diesel engine that is capable of producing a maximum power output of 188 hp and peak torque of 400 Nm. This engine will be mated to an eight speed automatic transmission which will send power to all four wheels via an all wheel drive system.

Speaking on the occasion, Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said that the all-new BMW X3 is now set to continue the success story, with even more striking and dynamic styling and a luxurious interior. Like all members of the successful X family, it combines outstanding ride quality on all terrains with unlimited everyday practicality.

BMW Group Plant Chennai locally produces the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 5 Series, the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 7 Series, the BMW X1, the BMW X3 and the BMW X5. BMW Plant Chennai will start the local production of MINI Countryman in 2018.
