The Chevrolet Cruze has to be among the most successful models to come from the American car maker in recent times.
In India, the Cruze successfully took the mantle from the Optra and dominated the entry level D segment for a considerable amount of time. However, the Cruze has started to face heat from newer competition and GM has already commenced the development of the all new next generation of Chevrolet Cruze.
Regulars here would remember that we reported in detail when the first set of spy pics of the next gen Cruze emerged on the cyber space. The test mules of new Cruze were caught undergoing cold weather tests. Now, what we have here today are artist’s impressions of the all new Cruze.
It is being said that the new car will take design cues from the Chevrolet Sonic. It seems like the creator of these renderings feels that the new Cruze might get more flowy lines and have a softer overall design.
The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze will be underpinned by D2XX platform which will replace the Delta II and Theta platforms. The new platform will upderpin as many as 12 Chevrolet cars in future and is expected to support 2.5 million cars sold by Chevrolet, Holden, Opel, Vauxhall, Buick, GMC and Cadillac brands by 2018.
The all-new generation of the Cruze, which has been codenamed as Project Phoenix, will have a larger cabin that will offer better legspace for rear passengers. The new Cruze will spawn multiple body variants like two door coupe, a station wagon and a hatchback.
Power options for the new car will consist of motors from a whole new family of engines. To be christened as the Small Gasoline Engine (SGE), the new powerplants are being developed by Opel in collaboration with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC). These engines will displace in the region of 1.0-1.5-litres and will be aided by turbochargers. The diesel motors too will be updated for the new car.
The all new Chevrolet Cruze will be unveiled in 2015.
