Last year, Mercedes-Benz India launched an upgraded and powerful version of the AMG GT in India. The Mercedes AMG GT S was launched in the country for a whopping INR 2.4 crore. The two door coupe is highly celebrated globally and holds the title of ‘World Performance car of the year 2015’ as well as the Red Dot Design’d ‘Best of the Best’ winner. While the AMG GT S is busy doing rounds as the Official Safety Car of the FIA Formula One World Championship, the automaker is already in the process to get its mean twin on the tarmac. The meaner looking Mercedes AMG GT version was spotted in camouflage during its public road test. The latest top of the line coupe is expected to go by the name Mercedes AMG GT R.

On the visual front the GT R coupe retains the same silhouette as the GT and the GT S but there are bits that sets it apart. Its GT S sibling is surely piloting the track races, but the GT R is built to race. The most noticeable design upgrade is that the wheel arches have been pumped up in size to house wider wheels. The beefed up wheels and arches, with the new side skirts give the AMG GT R a wide look. At the rear, the coupe is fitted with a sporty rear wing and huge air diffusers. Replacing the four tip exhaust of the standard GT the GT R features a large exhaust in the middle of the diffusers.

The race ready Mercedes AMG GT R is expected to roll out with a reworked 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo engine that does the powering duties on the GT and GT S. On the GT R the engine will be tuned to spout over 510 BHP and a maximum torque between 600 – 700 NM. The GT S can do a phenomenon of 0-100Km/h in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 310kmph. We can expected the GT R to do the same, but a little better. The company is all set to introduce the GT R, but will not stop at it. The automaker is in plans to introduce another beast of the GT line up. The insane GT after the GT R will carry the ‘Black Series’ insignia.
