Images of the 2016 Toyota Prado, along with a handful of details have been leaked. On the offing will be new features, a new engine, as well as a new transmission option. Visual changes, however will be extremely limited, apart from optional LED headlamps and two new body color choices.

The 2016 Pardo will benefit from a member of Toyota’s newly unveiled “GD” turbo-diesel engines, which was unveiled at the 2015 Vienna Motor Symposium. Displacing 2.8 liters and officially addressed as 1GD-FTV, the new, in-line 4 cylinder motor will replace the existing 3.0 liter Turbo Diesel engine. Rated at 177 HP and 450 Nm of torque, 1GD-FTV will also find its way under the hood of the next generation Innova, Fortuner and Hilux models. However, for the Prado, output will be marginally reduced to 174.3 HP.

The existing 4.0-liter VVT-i, naturally aspirated, V6 petrol engine will gain an extra 6.7 HP of power, with the revised output standing at 277.6 HP at the same 5600 rpm. Apart from a six-speed manual transmission, both engines can now be paired to a new six-speed automatic transmission (replacing the existing 5-speed unit), also expected to be shared with the new Toyota Hilux.

The upgraded Toyota Prado is expected to be launched by the third quarter of this year, with an Indian entry followed thereafter.
