2016 Hyundai Tucson launch likely to happen in October

Hyundai seems to be on a roll with regards new launches for the year. The Korean automobile manufacturer recently launched the sixth generation Elantra in India at INR 12.99 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). The launch of the Elite i20 with an automatic transmission is also said to be around the corner.

Now, a new report suggests that Hyundai India will launch the third generation of the Tucson SUV in the month of October. The 2016 Tucson made its debut at Hyundai India’s pavilion where it was showcased during the 2016 Auto Expo. The SUV, which will be placed between the Creta compact SUV and the SantaFe premium SUV, was spied during its public road test in May.

Based on Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 philosophy, the 2016 Tucson comes equipped with the signature hexagonal shaped grille; twin LED headlamps and DRLs up-front. At the rear, the model receives LED tail lights, similar to those of the current generation i20 series. On the inside, the upcoming Tucson receives a leather wrapped instrument panel, five inch touchscreen color LCD display with a rear view camera and a panoramic sunroof. Also on offer would be a 405 watt Sirius XM audio system equipped with eight speakers.

Internationally, the Tucson is available with a 1.7 litre diesel engine and a 2.0 litre diesel engine as well as a 1.4 litre petrol motor. The 2.0-litre diesel engine is likely to be the only engine to make it to the India spec model. This 2.0-litre diesel motor is tuned to produce a maximum power output of 182 hp while the peak torque is rated at 400 Nm. This engine could come mated to a six speed manual transmission while a six speed automatic gearbox maybe introduced later. Once launched, the 2016 Tucson will take on the likes of the Honda CR-V, Skoda Yeti, Ssangyong Rexton and the Isuzu MU-7. Expect the model to arrive with a price tag in the range of Rs. 17-22 lakh as initial models will come through the CBU route.
