Audi Weekender Drive

2016 Audi Weekender Drive Gets Racing Champ Rayomand Banajee Onboard

The invite to the Audi Weekender Drive escalated my dull work mode to a hell yeah mode in all of a second. It’s an event conducted by the German luxury car manufacturer for its customers and Audi enthusiasts. While the Q drives give you a chance to take the Audi SUVs to the off roads, the weekender drive adds a bit more fun to it by bringing in some fancy sportscar to the mix. So along with the Qs, Audi had brought the TT coupe S5 Sportback to the Royal Western India Turf Club parking lot on the 5th of November 2016.

Back in April 2016, I had attended the Mumbai edition of Audi Q Drive and even this time the SUV experience part of the drive was very similar. We had the Audi Q3, Q5, and the Q7 with us and we drove it through various road conditions to test its Quattro muscle. So chicken holes, rumbles, axle twisters were all taken in stride with gay abandon.

So what were the Audi TT coupes, S5 Sportback and the A-trio doing at the event, you may ask. While the experts and marshals were taking care of the off-road section, a team of instructors led by former National racing champ, Rayomand Banajee, were assisting enthusiasts in tearing down the tarmac.

After a briefing about the tasks and safety, I headed to the Audi TT coupe lineup and quickly jumped into one. The first task was the ‘acceleration and braking’ bit and the next was to slalom through cones. So, I was on my mark, all set, ready to go, and at the cue I took off!

As instructed, I floored the throttle and within a few blinks I was on the other side of the marked track. In this test you just go full pedal to metal and then hit the brakes to test both pick up and braking capabilities. I returned to the starting point again for the next task – Slalom. Slaloming through the course was fun in the nimble Audi TT Coupe.

We repeated the courses again and again but in different Audis. We took the S5 through it, then put the A3 and the A4 to the task. With a 3.0 TFSI Quattro making 328 Bhp the Audi S5 managed the course testing the car’s behaviour during quick direction changes with fantastic composure!

The Audi Q Drive showcases the functionality and capability of Audi’s capable SUVs and demonstrates their off-roading capabilities. In addition to this, driving the sports cars like Audi TT Coupe and the S5 on an enclosed track is not only an enriching, exciting experience, but also  provides an opportunity to enthusiasts and potential customers to make a wise decision!
