Yesterday, India’s best selling car got a face-lift. The refreshed Swift Dzire is out, and Maruti wants to push sells further with an improved fuel efficiency figure of 26.59 kmpl* for the diesel variant, a claimed 13 per cent improvement over the outgoing model.
*the petrol version comes with a fuel efficiency improvement of over 9% with a certified (by Test Agency under Rule 115 of CMVR 1989) fuel efficiency of 20.85 kmpl (MT), 18.5 kmpl (AT) – as compared to 19.1 kmpl – MT and 17.4 kmpl – AT for the outgoing petrol variant.
What’s new?
It’s only a face-lift, so changes on the exterior are limited to only new bumper-work, grille and illumination.
The new front bumper is more adventurous, and now sports a bigger air-dam, and new matte-finished fog lamp surrounds lined on the inside with chrome. The grille has grown, and is slashed with a thick chrome lip.
The head-lamps now have black inserts, while the top-end Zxi/Zdi variants now get newly designed “Motion themed” alloy wheels.
They’ve been lazy on the back as well, with the only visual alteration lying in the newly sculpted rear bumper. Reverse Parking Sensors are an added feature.
The new Dzire can now be accessed into via keyless entry, can be started courtesy a new push button start/stop feature, while also featuring new upholstery, an updated music system with 6 speakers and Bluetooth connectivity on the inside.
Engines
Though the engines are the same 1.3-liter diesel and 1.2-liter petrol units, they’ve been slightly tuned with to offer better, aforementioned fuel efficiency figures. The tried and tested 1248cc DDiS diesel engine now develops a peak torque figure of 190Nm @ 2000 rpm and a maximum power figure of 75PS @ 4000rpm. The petrol variant continues with the responsive and efficient 1197cc K series VVT engine that develops a maximum power figure of 84.3PS @ 6000rpm and a max torque figure of 115Nm @ 4000rpm – as compared to 87 PS, 114 Nm for the outgoing petrol variant.
Furthermore, ABS and EDB (only with diesel) have now been standardized in the middle VDi trim.
Prices
The Maruti Swift Dzire facelift will be available in eight trims: 5 in petrol (including AT) and 3 in diesel. The refreshed bestseller will retail at an introductory starting price of INR 5.07 lakh for the base petrol variant (Lxi), going all the way to INR 7.81 lakh for the top-end diesel variant (Zdi).

Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India said, “Taking forward our efforts to refresh our existing models, we present new DZire as India’s most fuel efficient car returning fuel efficiency of 26.59kmpl. The rich equipment list on the refreshed Dzire that includes premium features like engine push start / stop system, reverse parking sensors, new motion alloy wheels and Bluetooth with audio etc will be valued by the customers.”
The DZire is available in four new body colours and will be available with both petrol and diesel options. Those include Alp Blue, Magma Grey, and Sangria Red.
