The all new 2015 Audi A3 sedan isn’t the only new sedan that the German premium car maker has showcased at the ongoing Auto Shanghai 2013. It may be noted that Chinese car market is fast emerging as being one of the most important of all car markets for premium car makers and in line with the increased focus on China, Audi has showcased the S3 sedan, the performance oriented variant of the A3 sedan at the ongoing auto show in Shanghai.
Just like the A3 is the cheapest Audi sedan in the VW Group owned luxury car maker’s portfolio, the S3 is the cheapest Audi performance sedan that one can buy. The car will compete against the AMG version of the upcoming CLA-Class sedan which was revealed earlier this year.
The Audi S3 is being offered with a 2.0-liter TFSI engine that has a max power output of 300 bhp and a peak torque figure of 380 Nm. The motor comes with a choice of a S-Tronic automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission.
Equipped with the auto transmission, the car is capable of hitting 100kmph from standstill in a quick 4.9 secs. With the manual gearbox, the car can hit 100kmph in 5.3 secs. The S3 has an electronically limited top whack of 250 kmph.
Visual changes to the Audi S3 include revised bumpers, updated side skirts, trunk-mounted rear spoiler and faux aluminium mirror casing.
To complement the engine power is a re-tuned suspension that reduces the ride height by 25mm
The car is equipped with Bluetooth and 4G/LTE connectivity, leather upholstery, panoramic roof, Bang & Olufsen audio system, MMI infotainment system with 7-inch TFT display and LED ambient lighting.
The Audi S3 sedan has a claimed fuel economy of 14.49 kmpl with the DSG dual clutch gearbox. With the manual, the car delivers about 14.28 Kmpl.
The 2015 Audi S3 sedan will go on sale later this year.
