Japanese auto maker Mitsubishi has showcased the new 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage at the ongoing 2013 New York Auto Show. The new car is a 5-door hatchback that looks poised to become the most fuel efficient non-hybrid petrol vehicle in US of A.
Mitsubishi has used a very safe approach for the design of the car and the Mirage has got a modern but conventional design theme that won’t offend anyone. The car’s body gets Mitsubishi’s Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) safety cell technology that has an impact energy-absorbing front end.
Powering the 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage is a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that benefits from MIVEC variable valve-timing technology. The motor doesn’t offer a Lancer Evo like performance but it good for a decent peak power output of 74 HP and 100 Nm of max torque. The transmission options include a 5-speed manual transmission and a Continuously-Variable Transmission (CVT). Power is transmitted to front wheels and Mitsubishi claims that the CVT variant of the Mirage has an overall fuel economy of 17 km/l.
The 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback comes loaded with features like seven airbags, Active Stability Control (ASC) with Traction Control System (TCS), automatic climate control, power windows, power outside rear view mirrors and a 4 speaker 140-watt audio system with AM, FM, CD, MP3, USB and iPod compatibility. The flagship ES model also gets 14-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, a leather steering wheel, a starter button, Bluetooth and wheel-mounted audio controls and options of navigation, a rear-view camera, parking assistant and LED interior illumination.
Unfortunately, HM-Mitsubishi, the JV between Indian manufacturer Hindustan Motors and Mitsubishi, intends to keep its focus on SUVs and won’t bring the Mirage to India anytime soon.
