Only a few hours ago, we reported that the upcoming Hyundai BA hatchback would sit between the i10 and the i20 in Indian car market. Now, a tweet from ACI editor Hormazd Sorabjee hints at a September launch of the new car.

It is a widely known fact that the Korean auto giant Hyundai is readying a new B Segment hatchback and the latest comment from Mr Sorabjee doesn’t come across as too much of a surprise, for it has been a common knowledge that the new car would enter Indian small car market around this year’s festive season.

However, Hyundai Motors India Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of Korean auto giant hasn’t yet made any official announcement regarding the India launch of the BA. There have also been many speculations regarding the positioning of the upcoming car. While there have been many reports that state that the car would replace the i10, there also are some reports which suggest that the upcoming hatchback would sit between the i10 and the i20. The same reports also say that the hatchback, which is basically the next generation i10, would be sold with the i15 moniker. These reports also suggest that the current i10, which is fast getting dated, would take the role of the Hyundai Santro Xing in Indian car market.

The BA aka next gen i10 aka i15 will be considerably larger than the current car, while sporting the plus points of the current gen model. The car will be sold with both petrol and diesel engine options and is likely to get a 1.1 Litre turbo diesel motor for the diesel variant. This engine will have a max power output of 75 Bhp of a peak torque figure of 150 Nm. The Hyundai BA is also expected to spawn a compact sedan in future. This sedan would sit beneath the India bound Hyundai HB20S based compact sedan and might throw open gates to an all new segment of small sedans.
