Regulars here would remember that we have been reporting about the new Chevrolet SS ever since it emerged that the car will be put on display at the New York Motor Show 2013. Well, the American carmaker has finally showcased the new SS at the ongoing auto show and here is all you should know about the new car.

The Chevrolet SS is basically an ‘Americanized’ version of the Holden SS V that is made for the Australian car market. The Chevrolet SS shares the platform with the current gen Camaro and is basically an amalgam of a four door saloon and a high performance sportscar. The Chevrolet SS is the first rear wheel drive performance sedan from Chevrolet in 17 years.

Powering the 2014 Chevrolet SS is a 6.2-litre V8 engine that has a max power output of 415 bhp and a peak torque figure of 562 Nm. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and the car can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in close to 5 seconds.

The car rides on 19-inch alloy wheels that wear 245/40 rubber at front and 275/35 rubber at rear. The 2014 Chevrolet SS has a 50:50 front-rear weight ratio and a low center of gravity.

The car gets a long equipment list that includes eight-way power adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, touch screen interface for the MyLink and navigation systems on the center console, a nine-speaker Bose audio system, a color head-up display (HUD) and push-button start. Safety features include a Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, a rear-vision camera with cross traffic alert, Side Blind Zone Alert and Automatic Parking Assist.
