More details have emerged about the next generation Audi A4 executive sedan that the popular German car maker intends to launch in 2014.

It is being said that the new 2014 Audi A4 will come with a radically different exterior styling that might pave the way for exterior styling of future Audi sedans. The new car will be a tougher rival to the BMW 3-Series F30 and the upcoming 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class than the current generation of the A4.

The highlights of the exterior design of the next generation car will be slimmer headlights, a six-sided grille, larger air intakes and of course, the typical Audi-ish LED fixtures.

The new generation of the Audi A4 will be as much as 100 kgs lighter than the current car and will be underpinned by the much advanced MLB platform from the VW Group. MLB is basically a bigger version of the MQB platform that underpins the new Golf, A3 and the Leon. The new platform will also be used for the new Touareg that will be launched in 2016.

The 2014 Audi A4 will come with a hybrid power option that would be available in both front-wheel drive and e-quattro variants. The latter will employ a petrol engine at the front and two electric motors on the rear axle.

The next gen S4 will be powered by the current V6 turbo that will be retuned to offer a max power of around 350bhp. The Audi RS4 Avant might get rid of the 4.2 liter V8 in favour of a turbocharged V6 motor with 500bhp of max power.

Stay tuned for more details.
