It has emerged that the new US-spec 2014 Chevrolet Cruze diesel has a claimed fuel economy figure of 46 mpg (19.56 kmpl) on the highway and 26 mpg (11.05 kmpl) in city. This means that the 2014 Cruze is the fuel efficient diesel car in its segment, in US car market.

The 2014 Chevrolet Cruze is powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged diesel engine that has a max power output of 148 hp and a peak torque figure of 258 lb/ft. The motor comes mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission and makes the car more fuel efficient than the VW Passat TDI (43 mpg) and VW Jetta TDI (42mpg).

The new Cruze can travel up to 700 miles on a single tank of diesel and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.6 seconds. The car will enter the US markets in the spring and will be launced in Canada in early fall.

The car will go on sale with a starting price of $25,695. All the variants of Cruze will come factory fitted with Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, 17 inch alloy wheels and leather interiors. The car will go on sale with a 5 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty and 2 year maintenance plan.

“We harnessed generations of diesel expertise to adapt our world-class global engine for the North American market,” said Gary Altman, chief engineer, Chevrolet Cruze Diesel. “The Cruze Diesel is the best diesel passenger car out there. Chevrolet is redefining the meaning of great fuel economy with this car.”
