There is no denying that the Mahindra Scorpio has been among the most successful of SUVs to have ever been on sale in India. Not just it snatched a lot of limelight away from the Tata Safari, it has also managed to stay on top of fresher competition (read: Renault Duster) , well almost.

However, age has started catching up rather quickly with the Scorpio and as we reported earlier, Mahindra has taken notice of it and is already busy working on giving its warrior a comprehensive facelift. The Mahindra Scorpio facelift might bow in at the New Delhi Auto Expo next year and could come with a lot more features along with an updated exterior and interior styling package.

Now, it has emerged that Mahindra wishes to make the most of the current Scorpio and has hence, come up with a special edition to infuse at least some freshness into the fast ageing brand.

The insides of the new 2013 Mahindra Scorpio Special Edition come draped in European leather, which in turn comes in a shade of tan and beige. The car also gets chrome-plated alloy wheels (Bling Lovers Rejoice!), a roof mounted 9-inch screen for the integrated DVD player, a high-gloss wood finished central bezel and dual front SRS airbags.

The Mahindra Scorpio Special Edition is based on the top of the line VLX variant and is powered by the same 2.2-litre mHawk direct injection turbo diesel engine that powers the regular variants. This engine has a max power of 120 BHP and has a peak torque of 290 Nm.

It would be interesting to see if some additional features, along with some ‘chequered flag’ decals, would help the Scorpio with staying on the top of SUV sales charts till the advent of the facelift.
