We recently posted in detail about the New Honda CR-V that is close to getting launched in the Indian car market. The Honda CR-V, a well recognized name in India, will become the new flagship product of Honda India and is being expected to come with a starting price of INR 20 lakhs.

The earlier generation of CR-V soft roader, which used to be available in India with 2 petrol engine options, sold in good nos. and was among the highest selling premium cars in the initial phase of its career. However, sales of CR-V saw a huge downfall with the advent of diesel engined competitors and sky rocketing gasoline prices in India.

Honda is now all set to introduce the all new generation of its CR-V in Indian car market and quite surprisingly, will rely again on two petrol engine options for the new vehicle. While a diesel engine option for the CR-V might not come to us for at least a few years, it is pretty sure that the Japanese auto giant will come up with an oil burner for the India spec CR-V at some stage in future.

It has emerged that the CR-V is almost ready to get a 1.6L i-DTEC diesel engine for the European market.

The Honda CR-V 1.6 diesel will debut at the fast approaching 2013 Geneva Motor Show and will be launched in European car markets ONLY.

This is the same diesel engine that also powers the European Civic and is known for offering a good mix of efficiency and performance. The diesel motor will be offered with the two-wheel drive variants of CR-V only and will come mated to a manual transmission.

Honda’s 1.6 i-DTEC ErathDreams diesel engine is the lightest in its segment and has low Carbon emissions.

Honda CR-V diesel will be manufactured at Honda’s Swindon facility and will go on sale in Autumn 2013.
