The all new, 2013 version of the popular Ford Mondeo (Fusion for America) has been revealed at the Detroit Auto Show. In its newest avatar, the Mondeo comes across as a sparkling exponent of Ford’s evolved Kinetic Design philosophy. The new Mondeo may very well be one of the eight cars that Ford plans to bring to the Indian market by mid 2015. Two of these cars have already been announced in the form of the new Fiesta and the Ecosport compact SUV. 2013 may see the re-entry of this D-segmenter in India, which once competed against the Honda Accord.
There will be a 1.6 liter (180PS) and a 2.0 liter (240PS) – paired with a paddle-shifted six-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission. AWD version will have the ability to send additional torque to the rear – as a performance option.
Having nailed the exterior design and handling aspect of their cars, Ford’s focus is to provide more gizmos, gadgets and modern features to their customers with the new car. The new Fusion offers an unprecedented portfolio of driver assistance and convenience technologies based on sensors, cameras and radar that enable the car to see and respond. Here’s a quick list:
• Lane Keeping System
• Adaptive cruise control
• Active park assist
• Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®) with cross-traffic alert
• Voice-activated communication through a driver’s mobile phone
• Interaction with the car’s audio system.
• MyFord Touch allows a driver to interact with vehicle systems through voice control, a touch screen tap or a conventional button.
“This really is a driver’s car,” said John Jraiche, program manager. “Fusion is even more fun to drive with specially tuned electric power-assisted steering (EPAS), a MacPherson strut front suspension and an all-new premium-level multilink rear suspension – comparable to Audi and BMW configurations.”
Ford Fusion interior quiet reaches a new level with acoustic underbody shields and weight-saving sound-absorption material; both minimize road and powertrain noise while boosting aerodynamic efficiency to help save fuel. The all-new model adds content such as a full-perimeter hood seal to be among the midsize sedan segment leaders in giving drivers a quiet ride.
