Valtteri Bottas continued Mercedes’ incredible opening of the 2019 F1 season by achieving victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Mercedes secured their fourth consecutive one-two win of the season, along with establishing a new record for one-two finishes at the start of a season. Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton are looking to continue their run of 16-straight race finishes, while Ferrari driver, Sebastian Vettel maintains his own streak of always finishing in the top-4 at the Baku City Circuit in Azerbaijan.
Talking about the other racers, Racing Point driver, Sergio Perez secured his third top-6 finish among the last four races held in Baku, while his teammate Lance Stroll claimed his second points-finish of the year. Spanish driver, Carlos Sainz has now finished in the top-8 for the last three Azerbaijan Grands Prix, this helped McLaren score double points finish for the first time since the previous Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Williams Racing team maintained their 100% finishing record in 2019.
Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc clocked the fastest lap in 1:43.009 minutes with an average speed of 209.795 kmph, he also was fastest during the practice sessions, but a crash ruined his qualifying hopes. Hamilton, however, said that he was too friendly in the first turn, which cost him the win. The next race will be held in Barcelona from 10-12th May, which will mark the start of the European Season.

On teammate Bottas’ win, Hamilton commented, “I was too friendly in Turn 1 and basically gave it to him, but he drove a fantastic race, made no mistakes and so he deserved the win this weekend.” Valtteri Bottas replied to this by saying, “Yeah, indeed. It was actually a tough race, even though maybe not much happening at the front Obviously Lewis was putting pressure all the time, so I could not do any mistake. But honestly, everything was under control so I’m happy to see the chequered flag and get this first place.
