Records are meant to be broken. This time, Subaru has broken the record and is now the fastest four-door around the Nurburgring Nordschleife track. The car which Subaru has used to pull off this feat is the Subaru WRX STI Type RA NBR. All the suffixes which are added to the car have a very specific meaning. ‘RA’ stands for Record Attempt and NBR stands for Nurburgring.

Subaru has lapped the ring in an astonishing time of 6m 57.5s. That’s 1.5 seconds quicker than the Lamborghini Aventador SV and only half a second slower than the Porsche 918. With all the engineering apparatus, these ‘hyper-cars’ just lost to a modified Japanese Four-Door saloon. Back to the drawing board, chaps. Without any further delay enjoy the mesmerising 6m.57.5s of your life.

This is no ordinary Subaru. This is a Subaru on steroids. With 650lb of downforce and a small, but powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged, flat-4 engine, this Subaru is tuned for 600hp, 350 more than the production version. Keeping things into perspective, the pumped-up Subaru produces more horsepower than a Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, the Mercedes AMG C-63S, the supercharged Range Rover Sport and even a Porsche 911 Turbo-S. A new crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons, new oiling system to handle the G-Force are some of the few new additions to the record-breaking version of the car.

A production version of the WRX STI Type RA NBR will be on the cards later this year. But instead of having 600hp it will have around 310hp.
