Delhi: Man Knocked Down By Car Lies Helpless For 12 Hours, Passers-by Steal Belongings

An accident victim who was hit by an unidentified speeding vehicle lay on the roadside for about 12 hours without any help in Delhi. While no one came to help the injured, identified as Narender Kumar, a few passerby chose to steal his belongings including a mobile phone and INR 12 from his pocket.

Kumar, a native of Bijnor in UP, who works as a driver, was returning home on Tuesday evening from Jaipur when the unfortunate incident occurred. The victim, who is currently undergoing treatment at the Safurjung hospital, has received injuries to various parts of his body such as the spinal cord, legs and neck.

Kumar revealed to the police that he was flung on to the foothpath as he was hit by a speeding car. Unable to move due to the impact, he lay on the side of the road throughout the night. Many people are said to have approached him after seeing him lying injured, but instead of helping, people stole his mobile phone, bag and some cash (Rs. 12) from his pocket.

Relief came to Kumar when one passerby finally called the police control room after which a police van was sent to the spot. A case of rash and negligent driving and causing hurt were registered against unknown persons while the police were also contemplating adding a section of theft to the case. The driver of the car as well as of thieves were unidentified at the time of going to press.
