A Bugatti Veyron replica, based on a 2001 Mercury Cougar, just sold for close to $60,000 (approximately INR 40 lakh) on eBay in the US. Rather than the description, which says “YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE HOW MUCH OF A ROCKSTAR YOU WILL BE DRIVING THIS. YOU WILL STOP TRAFFIC EVERYWHERE YOU GO”, we believe that the owner was drawn into the deal by how convincing this replica looks.
The fibreglass bodywork, though shoddy in places, will easily fool the untrained eye, while the seller mentions that the replica even comes with a functional rear wing. Instead of the Veyron’s giga-horsepower W16 engine, this replica makes do with a Mercury sourced 3.0-liter Duratec V6 engine, which has been fitted with an SVO intake and is linked to a custom exhaust. The power output, although unspecified, should be a shade over 200 horsepower.
The replica aims to impersonate the original with a custom built dashboard, door trims, gauges and a Porsche steering wheel, the latter looking like a knock-off as well. Other features of the Veyron replica, as listed on the website include air conditioning, cruise control, power locks, power windows, CD player and power seats, while safety features listed include anti-lock brakes and a driver airbag.
