The launch of the new generation Hyundai Verna has brought a fresh wave of excitement to the sedan segment. And the new Verna is generating quite a stir among the audience. Let’s have a look at how the new Verna fares against its rivals: –

Hyundai Verna vs the Segment

Hyundai Verna vs Honda City

The price of the Hyundai Verna ranges from 10.90-17.38 Lakhs Ex-showroom. But the price of Honda City ranges from 11.43-20.39 Lakhs Ex-showroom. The Honda City offers Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking and Brake Assist. The Verna gets Front Parking Sensors, Emergency Brake Lights and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The new-gen Verna gets bigger 528 litres of boot space than 506 litres of City.

In terms of engines, the Verna is available with an option of a 1.5L 4-cylinder Turbo GDi which churns 160ps and 253nm of output. However, the Honda City is available with an option of a 1.5L 4-cylinder Hybrid engine churning out 126ps and 253nm of combined output. The non-turbo engine of Verna belts out 115ps and 144nm but the non-hybrid engine of City belts out 120ps and 145nm of output.

The new Verna is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox for both engines. But the Honda city gets the 6-speed manual option for non-hybrid engines only. However, the Verna also offers an option of an IVT gearbox for non-turbo and a 7-speed DCT for turbo variants. But the Honda City gets an option of a CVT gearbox for both the non-hybrid and hybrid engine.

Hyundai Verna vs Maruti Ciaz

The prices of the Hyundai Verna range from 10.90-17.38 Lakhs Ex-showroom. But the prices of Maruti Ciaz range from 9.15-12.35 Lakhs Ex-showroom. The new Hyundai Verna gets a larger boot space of 528 litres than the 510 litres of the Maruti Ciaz. Hyundai has loaded the new Verna with safety features like ADAS Level-2, ABS, EBD, Hill Assist, VSM etc. but the Ciaz gets Brake Assist and Traction Control System. The Verna has a longer length and wheelbase than Ciaz. Dimensionally, the Verna has more width but Ciaz has more height.

The Ciaz offers LED projector headlights but the Verna gets halogen-based LED headlights with cornering lamps and follows me home feature. The Verna has a bigger 10.25-inch infotainment system than the 7-inch unit of Ciaz. The Ciaz has GPS navigation but Verna has a wireless charger. The Verna has a shorter turning radius of 5.2m than the 5.4m of the Ciaz.

The Verna has a 1.5L 4-cylinder non-turbo petrol and turbo petrol engine. But Ciaz has only a 1.5L 4-cylinder non-turbo petrol engine. The non-turbo Verna has 115ps and 144nm of output and the turbo variant of the Verna has 160ps and 253nm of output. But the Ciaz has 102hp and 137nm of output. The Verna is available with a 6-Speed Manual Gearbox but Ciaz has only a 5-Speed Manual Gearbox. The Verna also has options of the IVT and 7-Speed DCT options but Ciaz has a 4-Speed Automatic Gearbox option only.

Hyundai Verna vs Volkswagen Virtus

The price of the Hyundai Verna ranges from 10.90-17.38 Lakhs Ex-showroom. But, the prices of Virtus range from 11.32-18.42 Lakhs Ex-showroom. Hyundai has loaded the new Verna with safety features like ADAS Level-2, ABS, EBD, Hill Assist, front parking sensors, VSM etc. but Virtus has brake assist and traction control system. The new Verna also offers a leather-wrapped gear knob and sunglass holder. But Volkswagen Virtus offers 8-way adjustable seats and rear folding seats.

Both cars are available with powerful 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo petrol engines and 7-Speed DCT gearboxes. But Verna offers more power at 160ps than 150ps of Virtus. And an option of a true and enthusiastic 6-Speed Manual Gearbox with Turbo Petrol which Virtus lacks it. However, Virtus offers a 1.0L TSi engine which makes more torque than the 1.5L VTVT engine of Verna. Virtus also offers a 6-Speed Torque Converter Automatic Gearbox option but Verna has an IVT gearbox option.

Hyundai Verna vs Skoda Slavia

The price of the Hyundai Verna ranges from 10.90-17.38 Lakhs Ex-showroom. But, the prices of Skoda Slavia range from 11.29-18.40 Lakhs Ex-showroom. The new Verna offers a bigger boot space of 528 litres than the 521 litres of Slavia. The new Hyundai Verna is brimmed with plenty of safety features like ADAS Level-2, ABS, EBD, Hill Assist, front parking sensors, VSM etc. But Slavia has Traction Control System.

Both cars are available with powerful 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo petrol engines and manual and DCT gearboxes. But Verna offers more power at 160ps than 150ps of Virtus. However, Slavia also has the option of a 1.0L TSi engine which makes more torque of 178nm than 144nm of the 1.5L VTVT engine of Verna. Skoda Slavia also offers a 6-Speed Torque Converter Automatic Gearbox but Verna has an IVT gearbox.
