Bajaj Discover Front

Is this the new commuter from Bajaj spotted during a road test?

A new commuter offering from Bajaj had been spotted under the daylight, draped in camouflage. The disguised bike is likely to be a new segment creator from the bike maker. Previously there were reports that Bajaj is set to design commuters with powerplants between 125-150 cubic capacity under a new sub-brand. The devised sub-brand is said to be place new commuters alongside the current generation of Discovers. The first bike launched by the the new banner will be a 150cc offering. Bajaj has used the 150cc engine in almost every series it has ever created. Recently Bajaj took its 150cc powermill and built an Avenger around it, making it the most affordable cruiser on the streets currently.

From the images it can be seen that the mule bears a third generation Pulsar 150 head unit as a decoy. Its size and dimensions suggests that it may be the first 150 cc model that will be launched next year or so.  The bike features flat handlebar, a fairly huge fuel tank and everything else in the front remains Pulsar-like. The position of the foot pegs is revised, they seem to be neutrally placed than the forward positioned on the Avengers. The telescopic suspension is placed upright than that of the Avengers.

The rear profile of the bike resembles the Avenger. The single piece seat, bodywork at the tail, grab rails look identical to the cruiser clan of the bike maker. This could probably be a new city-friendly cruiser offering from Bajaj that will be placed below the Avenger 150 Street. What looks new is the Nitrogen Oxide assisted rear gas shocker which was missed by the new Avengers. The rear wheel looks a bit smaller, also the exhaust muffler is like the one on the Bajaj’s Street duo.

As for the Tech-Mech specs, we expect the bike to roll out with a retuned 150cc engine. A 5-speed gearbox will be tied to the engine to push the power to the wheels, hence a power figure between 13-15 bhp and 12-14Nm of torque can be expected out of the combination.

Bajaj has apparently stated that they are not going to participate in the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo, so no good news there. And also looking at the test mule it seems that the production version of the product is still miles away. We can expect the bike to be revealed in mid 2016 or early 2017, till then stay tuned.
