Auto Expo 2018: Aprilia Tuono 150 Takes The Fight To The Yamaha R15

Alongside its bigger brother, the Tuono 1100, Aprilia showcased this – the Tuono 150 at the 2018 Auto Expo. The bike promises to retain the aggressive, sporty and dynamic character in the Italian brand’s characteristic unique style of the bigger superbike while packaging it in a more accessible 150cc model. This will take the fight to the hugely successful Yamaha R15 if launched in India.

Designed, developed and built in Italy, the Aprilia Tuono 150 is targeted towards the younger rider and enthusiasts of smaller engine capacities, Aprilia claims that it is the best these users can find in terms of design, construction, components and technical features.

The heart of the Aprilia Tuono 150 is a modern and technologically advanced 150 cc single-cylinder, 4-Stroke, 4-Valve electronic injection engine with liquid cooling. The engine peak out 18 HP and 14Nm of peak torque through 17 inch rubber on both ends. Reliable and powerful, it has particularly refined 4 technologies such as double overhead camshaft timing (DOHC).

Aprilia says that it has tuned the engine in such a way that it guarantees responsiveness even at low revs. Vibrations are reduced to the minimum by a balancing countershaft. The engine also has Euro 4 certification to ensure maximum efficiency.

Stopping power comes from a 300mm disk up front with a Bosch ABS equipped 4 piston calliper complemented by a 218mm disk at the back. The bike also gets up-side down forks up front and a mono-shock unit at the back.

The Tuono 150 is installation-ready for Quick Shift, Aprilia’s innovative track-based gear-shifting technology. Just like with its big sister, the Tuono 1100, the electronic system manages torque interruption for the engaged gear change, based on how far the throttle is open and the engine revs, allowing the rider to upshift while holding the throttle open and without using the clutch.

The racing inspired exhaust is completely integrated within the lower part of the fairing to help centralize the mass of the bike, thereby improving the dynamics and also maintaining a neat aesthetic profile.
