Mahindra XEV 9S Gets New Six-Seat Layout With Captain Seats!

Mahindra has added a new seating choice to the XEV 9S electric SUV. Buyers can now pick six seats with two individual captain seats in the second row. This gives the three-row EV a more premium cabin option without changing its batteries, motor or main equipment.

Six seats across three variants

This option also gives the XEV 9S a clearer premium feel for buyers who spend more time in the second row. The extra space between the seats can be useful on longer drives, especially when passengers need to move between rows. The new layout is offered on Pack Two Above, Pack Three and Pack Three Above. The lower Pack Two and entry versions keep the seven-seat bench.

The two captain seats leave a gap in the middle. This can make it easier to reach the third row and gives second-row passengers more personal space.

Key points:

  • Six-seat layout with two captain seats
  • Available on three higher variants
  • Seven-seat layout continues on lower versions
  • Third-row access gets a central passage
  • No new powertrain is introduced

Features and cabin

The XEV 9S already has a long list of equipment. Depending on the variant, the SUV gets three 12.3-inch screens, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 5G connectivity, wireless charging and a panoramic Skyroof.

Higher versions also offer powered and ventilated seats, three-zone climate control and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. Rear passengers get AC vents, USB ports, sunshades and a centre console with armrests and cupholders. Some versions also have a Lounge Desk and snack tray.

Driver assistance features include a 360-degree camera, park assist, blind-spot monitoring and Level 2+ ADAS. The top Pack Three Above also gets Mahindra’s VisionX augmented-reality head-up display.

Battery and performance

Mahindra sells the XEV 9S with 59kWh, 70kWh and 79kWh battery choices. The 59kWh version makes 228bhp and 380Nm and has a claimed range of 521km. The 70kWh model is rated at 280bhp and 380Nm with a claimed 600km range.

The 79kWh version produces up to 286bhp and 380Nm and offers a claimed range of 679km. It supports DC charging at up to 180kW and can charge from 20 to 80 per cent in a claimed 20 minutes. The 70kWh and 59kWh packs accept up to 160kW and 140kW respectively.

Dimentions

The XEV 9S measures 4,737mm long, 1,900mm wide and 1,747mm tall. Its wheelbase is 2,762mm and ground clearance is 205mm. Boot space is rated at 527 litres, while the front storage area adds another 150 litres.

A useful new choice

The six-seat layout makes the XEV 9S more flexible. Buyers who need maximum seating can still choose seven seats, while those who want separate second-row seats can pick the new setup.
