MG is adding a new name to its SUV range, but this one is a little different from the Hector we already know. The new SUV is expected to be called the Hector Hawk and is scheduled to be launched in India on August 28, 2026. It will also bring two powertrain choices, including an electric version and a plug-in hybrid.
The new SUV will sit above the existing Hector in MG’s range. It is based on the Wuling Starlight 560 sold in international markets and will be the first MG model in India to underpin the new ADAPT platform.
Two Powertrain Choices
The biggest talking point is the choice of powertrains. The Hector Hawk EV is expected to use a 69.2kWh battery, while the PHEV will combine a petrol engine with a smaller battery and electric motor.

The PHEV could also offer a total driving range of more than 1,000km with a full tank and fully charged battery. This could make it an interesting choice for buyers who want electric driving for daily use but still need a petrol engine for longer trips.
What Will The SUV Look Like?
The SUV measures around 4.7 metres in length and has a 2,810mm wheelbase. Test vehicles seen in India have shown a boxy design with a few notable details.
Expected exterior highlights include:
- Split-style LED headlamps
- LED daytime running lamps
- Large front grille
- Full-width LED tail-lamps
- Roof rails
- Roof-mounted spoiler
- Rear charging port on the left side
- Large SUV proportions
The EV version is expected to have a closed-off front section because it does not need a traditional engine grille.
Feature List Looks Strong
The cabin is expected to follow a simple dashboard layout with two main screens. A large touchscreen sits in the centre, while the driver gets a separate digital display.
Expected features include:

- 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster
- Panoramic sunroof
- Powered and ventilated front seats
- 50W wireless phone charger
- Six-speaker audio system
- Automatic climate control
- Rear AC vents
- Connected car technology
Safety equipment could include six airbags, TPMS, hill-hold assist, electronic parking brake, rear parking camera and sensors. A Level 2 ADAS package is also expected.
What Is The ADAPT Platform?
The Hector Hawk will introduce MG’s ADAPT platform in India. The platform has been designed to support several types of powertrains.
It can support:
- EV
- Plug-in hybrid
- Strong hybrid
- Range-extender
- ICE powertrains
JSW MG has said that its first focus will be on EV and PHEV models.
Price And Rivals
The Hector Hawk could start at around Rs 18 lakh, although the final price will be announced closer to the launch.
The EV version is expected to face models such as the Mahindra XEV 9S, while the PHEV could be compared with the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari.
MG has also filed trademarks for Hector Hawk and Hector Hawk Plus. This leaves room for different seating layouts, including a possible five-seater and a larger six or seven-seater version.
The current Hector has been on sale since 2019, so the new SUV will give MG a more modern option in this part of the market. The company has not confirmed whether the existing Hector will continue alongside it.
