Nissan India have unveiled their new sedan for India. As in China, the car will be called the Sunny in India as well. The big announcement this afternoon about the car is that it will be first made available with a petrol engine. The new 1.5-liter petrol engine would be a first on any Renault – Nissan car in India. A diesel variant of the car will be released in a few months time. the diesel engine would be the same 1.5-liter dCi unit which powers the Nissan Micra and the Renault Fluence in India.

No exact timelines regarding the launch dates were provided, however, we expect the new Sunny sedan to make its debut with the petrol engine during the festive season. Find below the detailed press release

Mumbai, August 3, 2011: Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) today unveiled its premium vehicle offering for the mid size segment in India – the new Nissan ‘SUNNY’. The new saloon will hit the market in the next few months to coincide with the festive season.

The name SUNNY has been iconic with the Japanese automobile company for the past 45 years since the vehicle’s first launch in 1966. The 10th Generation Nissan SUNNY is based on the popular V- (Versatile) platform, the one used in the Nissan Micra. The car has been designed and fine-tuned to meet different tastes and needs of customers beyond its market segmentation in both developed markets and emerging markets like US, China and India. It will appeal to a wide range of buyers, including professionals and families with a young mindset.

The vehicle’s exterior design offers a refreshing design character that is both sophisticated and aerodynamic. Its design is the epitome of energetic and sleek lines with sculpted and dynamic proportions that offer the sedan a very upscale look. Frontal design cues like the new Nissan signature grille and the jewel like headlights enhance the overall chic look of the vehicle while sporty and smooth silhouette is the theme for the side profile of the car.

Speaking on the growing Nissan product porfolio, Mr. Dinesh Jain, CEO, Hover Automotive India said, “Unveiling of Nissan SUNNY today could not have been at a better time than this. We have built a robust chain of 40 dealerships nationwide in a period of over one year and we are on schedule to open up 100 dealerships by end of 2012. PRODUCT ATTRIBUTES

 Nissan SUNNY is a premium saloon car, which has been designed at Nissan Design and Nissan Motor Co Ltd headquarters in Japan along with inputs from 170 countries where it would be sold worldwide. It made its global debut at the 8th China (Guangzhou) International Automobile Exhibition in December 2010.

 The petrol variant of the Nissan SUNNY will be manufactured at the Renault Nissan alliance Orgadam facility in Chennai.

Nissan has unveiled its new sedan for India. The company has kept the name of the car as Sunny only, for India. Earlier, it was speculated that the company may change the name for the Indian market. The car looks exactly the same as the Sunny sedan in the international market.
