We have been reporting in detail about the 2015 Hyundai i20. Only yesterday we brought you spy pics when our friend and reader Mr. Vignesh spotted the car in Chennai. Now, fresh spy pics of the car have been posted on Team-BHP by member salman_ferrari. He too spotted the car on test in Chennai. It is to be noted that Hyundai is testing the car in India from more than 8 months.
Since, Hyundai recently introduced the new i10 (which is the Grand i10 for the Indian market), which has grown in size, Hyundai has to ensure the i20′s dimensions are also increased to widen the gap between the two.
Positioned as a premium hatch by the Korean car maker, the 2015 Hyundai i20 will have a longer wheelbase, marginally more width and also more spacious interiors. The test mule seen here features sweptback headlights, a bigger lower front grille and vertical taillights. Just like the current gen model, the car will also come with a tailgate-mounted spoiler and turn signals built into the outer rear view mirrors.
Globally, Hyundai will be equipping the 2015 i20 with 1.1 liter 3 pot diesel engine and the 1.2 liter 4 pot gasoline engine, along with the 1.0 and 1.4 liter diesel mills. The India spec car will continue to use the 1.4 liter 4 pot diesel and the 1.2 liter 4 pot petrol motor. These engines will be mated to 5 and 6 speed manual transmissions. The car will also be offered with an automatic transmission with the petrol engine.
The next gen 2015 Hyundai i20, codenamed internally as ‘IB’, will be based on the current gen i20’s platform. Hyundai will also build a N performance variant of the car, which will take time to reach our shores.
