Yamaha Motor India posts 34% sales growth in May 2013

Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. has registered a growth of 34% in sales during May 2013 as compared to the corresponding period last year. The company continues to maintain an upward trend in sales on the back of its superb product line-up, new customer offerings and innovative customer centric activities.

The company sold 34,104 units in May 2013 as against 26,287 units sold in May last year in the domestic market thereby registering a domestic sales growth of 30%. In the Export markets the company sold 15,356 units in May 2013 as compared to 10,669 units in the same month last year achieving a growth of 44%. The overall sales stood at 49,460 units in May 2013 while 36,956 units were sold in May 2012, thereby registering a 34% overall growth.

Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. recently launched of its second scooter offering for the Indian market – “RAY Z” in Goa. This model is developed to target young male users in the age group of 16-22 years with its concept of “Aggressive Sporty Design.” With the addition of the new scooter Ray Z in its portfolio, Yamaha Motor India is looking at a market share of 20% in the scooter segment by 2016.

Since its entry with Yamaha Ray in Scooter Segment last year, its signature compact size and ease of use has made the Ray quite popular, resulting in sales of about 70,000 units as of the end of April 2013. In India, where market growth is expected to continue, the launch of the new RAY Z specifically targeting male users gives Yamaha a stronger scooter lineup to expand and increase sales.
