The C40 Recharge retains the distinctive style of Volvo’s SUV lineup but features a coupe-like roofline that sets it apart. This design leads to a redesigned rear, including slimmer, wider wraparound tail lamps with new reverse lights. The LED lighting elements are segmented towards the top, providing a unique rear lighting signature.

Additionally, a two-part spoiler, one on the boot lid and one on the roof, enhances aerodynamics. Additionally, the C40 Recharge exclusively offers Pixel LED headlights in India, contributing to its sporty appearance.

Volvo C40 Interior and Sustainable Materials

Inside the C40 Recharge, you’ll find a familiar Volvo design, characterized by a 9.0-inch portrait-style touchscreen, slim AC vents, wood inlays, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. What’s more, the infotainment system, based on Android provides direct access to Google Maps and Assistant. Moreover it also offers access to various apps from the Play Store via an onboard e-SIM.

Notably, the C40 Recharge’s interior is entirely leather-free, aligning with Volvo’s commitment to eliminating leather from all its electric vehicles by 2025 to reduce animal harm and carbon emissions.

The cabin offers a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). And it also offers powered front seats with memory function, dual-zone climate control, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system.

Impressive Powertrain and Range

The C40 Recharge shares its underpinnings and powertrain configuration with the XC40 Recharge. It features a dual-motor setup, one on each axle, along with a 78kWh battery pack. Furthermore, this combination results in a claimed range of 530km on a single charge (WLTP cycle) or 683km according to ICAT standards.

The C40 Recharge’s two electric motors provide all-wheel-drive capability and a total output of 408hp and 660Nm of torque. Surprisingly, It accelerates from 0 to 100kph in just 4.7 seconds and supports fast charging with a 150kW DC charger that can replenish the battery from 0 to 100 percent in 27 minutes.

Competing in the EV Landscape

In summary, the C40 Recharge enters the Indian market as a competitor to vehicles like the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5. It positions itself as a premium electric SUV with a local assembly, making it a noteworthy addition to the growing electric vehicle segment in India. Lastly, Volvo is making strides in promoting electrification, and the C40 Recharge exemplifies the brand’s commitment to a sustainable and eco-friendly automotive future.
