Reports suggest that the launch of the upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan is scheduled to take place in the month of May this year. The Indian arm of the German automobile manufacturer had earlier confirmed that the SUV would be arriving in the country this year although no launch date was mentioned.
Bookings for the upcoming SUV from Volkswagen will reportedly begin in April, a month ahead of its launch. Previously, a few units of the Tiguan SUV were spotted testing hinting at an imminent launch. Based on the company’s MQB platform, the India spec version of the upcoming model will be powered by a 147 bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged TDI diesel engine. This motor would come mated to a seven speed DSG gearbox.
The new Tiguan stands 60 mm longer, 30 mm wider and 50 kg lighter as compared to the previous generation model. The model will come equipped with an eight inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink connectivity. Also on offer will be satellite navigation.
It remains unknown whether Volkswagen India will bring the Tiguan SUV in India through the CBU route or CKD route. The company is also yet to reveal whether the model will come in the 5-seater avatar or a 7-seater avatar. Once launched in India, the Volkswagen Tiguan will rival the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Trailblazer and the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq. Stay tuned for updates.
