Volkswagen Taigun Compact SUV might come to us in 2016

2013-Volkswagen-Taigun-Compact-SUV-India-Launch

We reported in detail when German auto maker giant Volkswagen unveiled the Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV at the Sau Paulo Motor Show last year. The Volkswagen Taigun will be powered by a 1 Liter-triple cylinder turbo petrol engine and the Taigun’s motor will be seen battling it out against the highly popular Ford Ecoboost and Renault’s Energi range of small capacity turbo petrol engines.

The car might also get an 800cc twin cylinder turbo diesel engine. This is the same engine that powers the XL1 hybrid.

It is being said that the Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV might make it to India some time in 2016. It may be noted that VW India has planned to not come up with a new car before 2015 and till then, it would be seen focussing on its current line up of vehicles. Volkswagen India will also be seen expanding its dealership and after sales network.

As for the Taigun, the India spec car might be a tad larger. The compact SUV would measure close to 4 metres in length and even though it would be longer than the current Taigun, which measures 3.86 metres, it would benefit from the excise duty benefits provided by Govt. of India. This would enable VW to price the car really well.  The car might also get a more powerful diesel engine for our country.

Won’t it be interesting to see Taigun battling it out against the EcoSport and Duster in India? Good times ahead. No?
