Volkswagen T-Roc Black Edition Is A Looker

Volkswagen T-Roc is a smart-looking car which is now available in India. Elsewhere, it is also available in a go-fast GT trim and a new T-Roc Black Edition has now been introduced in the UK. The name might have given it away but for the uninitiated, this special edition of T-Roc features black-coloured interior and exterior trims, along with some new and updated features and equipment. This special blacked-out edition is based on T-Roc’s mid-spec SE variant. It is available in the UK market as we speak and has joined the Touareg Black Edition which was launched there in February this year.

More details

The whole car is draped in black and oh, the way it looks! All the chrome garnishing that is there on the standard T-Roc has been eliminated to go with the ‘black’ theme. The Black Edition comes with a new black-finish to its grille trim, door mirror caps, roof rails and exhaust pipes, as well as adding rear privacy glass, an eye-catching geometric decal on the car’s C-pillar, 18-inch ‘Arlo Black’ alloy wheels and LED headlights.

The black treatment isn’t limited to just exteriors alone. Once you step inside the cabin, the dark theme continues on the dash pads, roof lining, leather-wrapped gearshift knob and multi-function steering wheel. Also, its upholstery now features contrasting grey-coloured stitching. It also gets a host of personalization options including a ‘beats’ audio sound pack, Vienna leather upholstery, and sports suspension among few others.

Like we mentioned earlier, it gets some updated features and equipment as well. The list includes electrically heated and foldable door mirrors featuring integrated puddle lights, Adaptive Cruise Control, front and rear parking sensors, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility. The T-Roc Black Edition will only be available in front-wheel drive, while the engine options include 2 petrol – 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI, and 2 diesel – 1.6-litre TDI and 2.0-litre TDI – engines, with power outputs in the range of 113 bhp to 148 bhp.

In India, we just have the standard T-Roc available in one fully-loaded trim and with a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a 7-speed DSG. Sporting a price tag of INR 19.99 Lakh (ex-showroom), the T-ROC is available in Cucuma Yellow, Pure White, Energetic Orange, Indium Grey, Ravenna Blue and Deep Black. Powering the VW T-ROC is a 1.5-litre TSI engine that generates 150 Hp and 248 NMm of torque, mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. What’s interesting about this motor is that it comes equipped with VW’s ACT or cylinder deactivation tech which senses the driving pattern and accordingly activates or deactivates 2 cylinders out of 4, resulting in reduced fuel consumption. No diesel engine or manual transmission is on offer.

Inside, the T-ROC comes with a panoramic sunroof, 2-zone AC, ‘Vienna’ leather seats, a touchscreen infotainment system with VW’s app connect, and an all-digital Activ Info display for instrumentation. With a 445-litre boot, the T-ROC offers ample luggage space and in terms of safety features, gets 6 airbags as standard with ABS, ESC, rear parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, all four disc brakes, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
