Volkswagen T-Cross Breeze is the budget Evoque convertible you always wanted

While the luscious new Range Rover Evoque convertible will ask a keg full of monies for its services, the new Volkswagen T-Cross Breeze Concept will cost a bit more than the Polo its based on; if it enters production that is. But rest assured, a roofed version of the Breeze concept will be here by 2017, representing Volkswagen’s entry level crossover. The T-Cross Breeze previews a compact SUV based on the Polo, and is the first convertible SUV in the segment. In the future, the T-Cross Breeze will be will be joined by two more SUV model series, apart from the Tiguan and Touareg models. Below the Tiguan, two new SUV model series based on the Golf will come; one of which will be inspired by the T-Roc concept car, while the T-Cross Breeze presented in Geneva shows VW’s Polo class crossover.

The new T-Cross Breeze is a warm blend of compact utility vehicle and soft top convertible, with tricked out interiors that feature touch-sensitive surfaces and newly developed “by-wire” controls. A 300 W BeatsAudio sound system is thrown in for some acoustic pleasure, too. The T-Cross Breeze draws power from a 1.0-litre, turbocharged direct injection petrol engine (TSI) rated at 110 PS and 175 Nm of maximum torque from just 1,500 rpm. The TSI drives the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox. Thus equipped, the SUV convertible, tipping the scales at 1,250 kg, needs a brisk 10.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h and reaches a top speed of 188 km/h.
