Safety is one of the biggest concerns for Indian car buyers, especially when it comes to new brands. VinFast knows this very well. The Vietnamese carmaker has taken its first serious step to the market with the introduction of the VF6 and VF7 electric SUVs in India. At this point, the two SUVs have overcome a significant obstacle. Now, both these SUVs have cleared an important hurdle. Bharat NCAP has officially tested them, and the results are strong.
Both the VinFast VF6 and VF7 have received a full 5 star safety rating under Bharat NCAP. This rating applies to all variants of both models sold in India.
The Bharat NCAP performance in a nutshell

VinFast VF6 safety performance
The VinFast VF6 was tested with a vehicle weight of 2,252 kg. The ratings apply to all three variants – Earth, Wind and Sky.
Safety equipment on the VF6 includes front airbags, side airbags and knee airbags. The range also has Electronic Stability Control and seatbelt reminders.
Crash test scores for VF6
- Adult occupant protection 27.13/32
- Child occupant protection 44.41/49
On frontal impact tests, the head, neck and upper leg protection of both the driver and the passenger scored full marks. Side impact tests also returned full scores for adult and child occupants.
One of the observations made in the report was that driver chest protection was rated as weak whereas the protection for the driver’s right shin was marked as marginal. Despite this, the overall score remained high enough for a full 5 star rating.
VinFast VF7 safety performance
VF7 is heavier and bigger in size compared to VF6, with the tested vehicle weighing 2,493 kg. Ratings apply to both Wind and Sky variants.
Like the VF6, the VF7 comes with front, side and knee airbags as standard. ESC and seatbelt reminders are also standard.
Crash test scores for VF7
- Adult occupant protection 28.54/32.
- Protection of child occupants 45.25/49
The VF7 performed slightly better than the VF6 overall. Driver chest protection was again rated weak, but shin protection was marked as adequate, an improvement over the smaller SUV.
In pole side impact testing, head injury values were far below the critical limit set by Bharat NCAP, showing effective protection in severe crash scenarios.
Advanced safety features
Both SUVs are built on an EV dedicated platform and come with seven airbags. Advanced driver assistance features including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane assist, blind spot detection and driver monitoring are also available to buyers depending on the variant.
These systems are designed to help avoid accidents, not just protect occupants after one.

Bharat NCAP is based on the international testing standards and is currently among the best-known safety standards in India. The ultimate rating is an important declaration, particularly to a new brand.
VinFast already enjoys a track record of good safety performances in other regions. The VF8 has been rated 5 star rating under ASEAN NCAP in the past, and has been consistent in the market.
