VIDEO : Mercedes-Benz Hires Mario to Promote the GLA in Japan

We have seen many famous actors or celebs being hired by car makers to promote their products. Now, many of you must have played the Mario Bros. video game, which has been developed by Nintendo, the Japanese game company.

For the Japanese market, Mercedes-Benz thought of chucking the same old celebrity or actor trend and hired none other than Mario himself to promote the GLA compact SUV.

The Japan-spec GLA is priced at 3,440,000 yen for the entry-level GLA 180 and goes all the way up to 8,100,000 yen for the GLA 45 AMG 4MATIC Edition 1. The GLA 45 AMG is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-four cylinder motor which sends all the 360 PS (265 kW) and 450 Nm (331 lb-ft) to a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. The 2.0 liter turbo motor propels the car to 62 mph (100 km/h) from standstill in 4.8 seconds and tops out at an electronically limited 155 mph (250 km/h). These performance numbers will surely Mario’s Princess Peach.

Other engines on offer include a 1.6-liter with 156 HP (115 kW) in the GLA 200 and a 2.0-liter with 211 HP (155 kW) in the GLA 250 which has a fuel consumption of 7.1 liters / 100 km (33.1 mpg US or 39.7 mpg UK). On the diesel side, the GLA 200 CDI gets a 2.2-liter delivering 136 HP (100 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) and consumes 4.3 liters / 100 km (54.7 mpg US or 65.6 mpg UK), while the GLA 220 CDI has a 2.2-liter with 170 HP (125 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft).

 Mercedes-Benz India has already commenced the bookings of the GLA 220 CDI with a payment of INR 1 lakh. The India launch of the GLA Compact SUV is expected to happen in September this year.
