VIDEO: McLaren P1 goes head-to-head with the mighty Bugatti Veyron

It hasn’t been officially done yet. But, an amatuer photographer managed to get a 16 second clip of two masterpieces, going against each other in a street race. These are not your regular, grocery buying cars. They are one of the finest, street legal vehicles on the planet.

Calling the Bugatti Veyron and the McLaren P1 powerful would be a gross understatement. They are humongous. While the Bugatti is a proper fuel powered sports car, the McLaren is plug-in hybrid. But don’t be fooled by the “hybrid” tag. Although the P1 is powered by a in-house developed electric motor which makes a meagre 176 bhp, it also has a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that produces 727 bhp. And it does not end here. With both engines, the P1 is capable of producing, a shivering, 890 bhp. And there is still more. The car’s ECU ‘torque fill’ cuts off the gaps in the petrol engine output called the turbo lag.

On the other hand is the world’s fastest production car. The Veyron has a massive 8.0-litre W16 quad-turbo engine that makes a monstrous 1,184 bhp. But despite these huge numbers, the P1 outdoes the Bugatti in the weight department. The Bugatti weighs 1,888 kilograms while the P1 weighs just 1,500 kilograms. This gives the P1 the power-to-weight advantage.

Sadly, the person who was recording the video was in neither of the two super cars and we cannot see which car hails victory.
