Mercedes-Benz’s most awaited SUV, the GLA Class, will hit Indian shores on September 30. The Mercedes GLA made its public debut at the Los Angeles Auto Expo. It was later showcased to the Indian audience at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi.
Powering the Mercedes-Benz GLA is a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder, turbocharged, direct injection engine that puts up 156PS power and 250Nm of torque. This engine propels the GLA200 from naught to 100 kph in 8.9-seconds with a claimed top speed of 205kmph. The GLA will also come with a 2.1-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that would produce 136PS of power and 300Nm of torque. Both, the petrol and diesel engines would get the 7G-DCT automatic transmission with a dual clutch setup.
The bookings for the GLA Class have already begun across dealerships in India. The GLA will be placed in the entry level SUV segment and will compete against the BMW X1 and Audi Q3.
Although there is no word about the pricing, Mercedes announced the price of the GLA in the in the United States a few days back. The base variant of the GLA in its two-wheel drive form comes at a tag of USD 31,300 (approximately Rs 18.82 lakh). The second variant comes with four-wheel drive configuration and will be priced at USD 34,225 (approximately Rs 20.57 lakh). The top of the line variant SUV will get the performance AMG treatment and will come at a price tag of USD 49,225 (approximately Rs 29.59 lakh).
